Representing your country in the Olympics is great. But in this Winter Game, Sarah Schleper is aiming for something greater. Being the oldest alpine skier on the roster wasn’t cool enough for Schleper.

Whether it’s on indoors halfpipes in New Jersey or the Rocky Mountains slopes of Colorado and Wyoming, there seems to be plenty of programs aimed at developing a diverse new generation of skiers, skaters and snowboarders.

As the athletes from around the world gather in Milan and Cortina to compete in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, one participant will represent New Mexico. Meet 40-year-old Travis Dodson of Deming, who is no stranger to the Olympics.

The Winter Olympics bring weeks of excitement worldwide. Hosted in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, this year, the 2026 Winter Olympics will feature about 3,000 athletes competing across 16 winter sports.
